A Little Bit About Universal . . .

The Universal brand was started in New Britain, Connecticut in 1842 and the manufacturing was continued until 1964 when the General Electric Co. bought the electric appliance end of the business and the non-electrical items were sold to different companies. The chopper division was bought by the Union Manufacturing Co. and they built the meat and food choppers until the U.S. Government close down most of the foundries in the U.S.A. in 1984. We bought the chopper business in 1984.
